“To celebrate 40 years in the area, I trawled through old sketch books for images of the places I've lived and people I've known, beginning in 1973, in Penybontfawr, in the Tanat Valley, where at Arllen Fawr, bats roosted in the attic and Melangell was the legend. At Pen-y-Bryn in Llansantffraid, we were often snowbound. At Rhiwlas Terrace in Llanfyllin I was woken to the sound of a trotting horse on the road to Bala. At Tai Clochydd we played Jazz on summer's days and built a fine new studio.
In 2010 we became neighbours to Robin and Mona Hughes, and Robin kindly agreed to write a poem in Welsh to accompany the prints. The translation (to English) reduces the fine verse to something more prosaic, but it does at last reflect my feelings for this inspiring place."
